At the moment I embroider a small tablecloth I bought as a kit, very cheap. By the way, they sell it again right now. The quality is decent for the price, and the designs on the fabric can be cleaned easily with lukewarm water. The tablecloth can be used for another embroidery if you don't like the model. A 6 euros kit containing a layer of 90 cm x 90 cm and the needed threat, it is interesting. Uh, yes , there is also theneedle buuut ... forget it ! It is more of a stake than the embroidery needle .

Well, that is not the purpose of this article. I wanted to take this opportunity to show you three tips (found on the website of Mary Corbet) which improve the quality of satin stitch and long and short stitch. The former seems simple, but if it is not even enought, it can be pretty ugly. And for the long and short stitch, if you've tried it, you know it is very difficult. I 'm only at the learning phase .

First tip : surround the area to be embroidered by one line of split stitches, so that the edges are neater. Why a split stitch rather than a stem stitch ? Because the edge of the stem stich has got "waves ", while the split stitch one is smoother.

On the picture below, the left flower was stitched without split stitch, while the right one was embroidered with them. You can judge the difference. Personally, I prefer the right flower that has more volume and whose contour seems neater.
Second tip: if you use several threads of stranded cotton, separate them one by one before puting them together to embroider (I do not know if I'm very clear) and then try to prevent them from mix again. So the embroidered surface will be smother.

Third tip : instead of embroider the surface from one side to the other, gradually, we must first stitch some leadership line and fill the surface using them as guide stitches. This tips really helps because there is thus benchmarks that direct the work.
Ok, my points are far from perfect, I am also trying to learn and try to improve the look of my work
. But these tips were helpful to me .
