Some time ago, I bought a very special threads pack. I prefer to give you no more information to avoidto influence you, because once again, I ask for your opinion. It's so nice to have your help when I'm in doubt.

So I did a little test with these threads using long and short stitches. I used to embroidered first petal 1. As I am beginner with this stitch, the result is not good. I then made the petal 2 with DMC cotton floss to have a point of comparison. I tried to choose colors as close as possible to the previous ones. Newt, as I was not satisfied with the result of petal 1, I embroidered petal 3, and then I have a slightly better effect.
My question is : Do you think this thread can be used for this type of stitch ? And what do you think about the look, knowing that the picture does not really shows to the shining of the thread and the brilliance of the colors ?

  1. Number 2 seems to blend better. The ends on 1 and 3 seem crisper. I would try this thread in a solid satin stitch but the DMC seemed to do a better job of shading.

    1. your right mary, this thread blend less than DMC, perhaps because of the shiny colors. and it would be probably very nice for satin stitch

  3. there is nothing really "wrong" with your stitching on any of your petals, it is a matter of which effect you like best.
petal #1 is almost a perfect example of block blending and #3 long and short stitch #2 is the best color blend, light to dark but you can do that easily with DMC threads because there are so many colors to choose from.
I think your stitching is lovely and you should practice the one that satisfies your eye or personal desire for "perfection".
knowing perfection is a chimera one never really attains.
you will always see the imperfect bits when everyone else is praising your efforts! ;) I know I do!

    1. For the first petal, I tried long and short stitches, but I missed it. you're right. I know I am ever angry about little things that other people don't see.

  5. to me they all work, in fact cannot pick one above the other, at first I thouhht 3 worked best but then I like the delicacy of the colours of 2 all are very pretty. Your stitching is good on all three. I have also used crewel wool for long and short stitch, wool hides a multitude of errors so is good for me.

    1. I would not have thought to use wool for long and short stitch. I would have to try.

  8. Each petal has its own charm; some plants (e.g. Sansiberia) have leaves with a border just like you have on #1. Like Momma Bear said, DMC has a great number of colours/shades/tints so it is easy to find the ones that blend beautifully.
I also think, from the look of the picture, that DMC stranded floss is thinner than the special thread in #1+#3.
When Long and Short stitch is used for blending colours well, I think DMC stranded floss is better. For a dramatic, marbled look, however, the special thread would be striking. Otherwise it might be best suited for the Satin stitch.
On a closer look, in #1 and #3 the pink at the tip of petal is yellow based (peach) while the next shade has blue in it. Petal #2 is stitched in only cool pink.

    2. hello, Queeniepatch.
I tried to choiced DMC colors as close as possible to those of the other threads. but it was not exactly the same, and the photo changed the colors too. you're right, it would be more appropriate for satin stitch.
